BEHAVIOR AND HABITAT
HABITAT & PREY
Jay's Dragons can occupy both land and semi-aquatic lifestyles. JDs are most commonly found around coastal forests, temperate coniferous forests, rivers, lakes, and swamplands.Jay's Dragons flourish in any habitat where fish can be a part of their diet, but are also known to prey on ungulates, seals, rodents and large birds.Usually, their food consumption is in balance with their age. The older a JD is, the larger the prey items they will target. Jay's Dragons that are younger than 2 years typically hunt small animals, where as 2+ year olds will assist adults in hunting larger prey.
BEHAVIOR & LIFE CYCLE
Jay's Dragons have litters of 2-6 kits. They will nurse on milk for several weeks, once weaned they will eat regurgitated meat and scraps brought home by adults.Around a 1 years of age they will begin to start hunting small animals on their own like rodents and birds. Once they reach 2 years of age (or simply reach the size necessary) they will begin to hunt larger prey animals with their family (seals and/or ungulates).Once a JD has proven it's ability to hunt on it's own (around 3-4 years of age) it will disperse, often with it's siblings, to search for mates. These dispersal groups are almost always groups of bachelors or bachelorettes. It is uncommon but not impossible for a JD to choose to stay with it's birth family for life.Once a JD has found a mate, it's siblings may be chased away, or choose to leave on their own. However, there are many cases where siblings will stay and contribute to the newly found family.Sometimes a mated pair will bring in another unrelated JD, forming same sex and polyamorus bonds. Mating may occur between each of these individuals, resulting in litters from different males. Or multiple pregnant females.If a JD family is not large enough to support multiple litters, the kits will starve. Jay's Dragon families can be as small as 2 adults, or as large as 20 adults.This allows for Jay's Dragons to take up large sums of territory as their families grow, and increases competition with other predator species and hostile JDs.

General "dark" storytelling is okay as long as that's what it is, storytelling. Otherwise, you can do anything you want with these guys! Feel free to make adopts, projects, sonas, ect.

However, the sale of character designs, artwork, and costumes is absolutely fine and encouraged.
FAQ
Q: Aside from the coat color guide, how creative can we be with our JD designs?
A: For both natural and un-natural JDs you may have:
- longer or shorter dewclaw
- scars
- disabilities
- larger or smaller than standard body types
- larger or smaller spikes on the tail
- unique fur textureAnything that drastically changes what the species look like (ex: extra limbs, eyes, hair-dos, ect.) should be prefaced for being a sparkle, hybrid or a species knockoff!
Q: Are Jay's Dragons hunt in packs? Or just solitary?
A: It is rare for a Jay's Dragon to live alone, but not impossible. Since they both help each-other and their teens hunt, you will most likely see JDs working together to hunt and push out other predators.
Q: Can Jay's Dragons wear accessories?
A: JDs as a wild animal would not have the intelligence or physical ability to craft items for themselves, but in the context of xenofiction, you can absolutely give your JD items to wear!
